Refined Analysis of Stress-Deformation in Monitoring Galleries of Extra-High Concrete-Faced Rockfill Dams

Abstract
Concrete-faced rockfill dams(CFRDs)are currently undergoing a technological challenge involving an increase in height from the 200-meter level to the 250-meter level,which presents significant engineering challenges.Accurate monitoring of stress and deformation throughout the construction and operational stages is significant for ensuring the safe performance of such high CFRDs.Existing internal monitoring technologies face challenges such as monitoring range,environmental complexity,which in turn lead to a host of severe issues including poor durability of instruments,difficult maintenance,and abnormal data.The design of internal inspection galleries offers a promising solution to these issues.However,inspection galleries experience substantial overburden pressure and potential deformation incompatibility with the surrounding rockfill mass.The behavior of internal inspection galleries under high overburden pressures and potential deformation incompatibility is understudied.This study employs a refined finite element model to investigate the design of galleries within the GS extra-high CFRD.Our analysis focuses on the impact of joint design on structural performance,while also mapping the evolution of stress and deformation during the dam's entire lifecycle.The influence of different joint configurations on gallery structural behavior was systematically analyzed,and the stress-deformation evolution across all project phases was tracked in this study.Results indicate that the multi-point displacement constraint method effectively enables refined simulation of the gallery structure,overcoming computational difficulties arising from the large-scale discrepancy between gallery elements and dam elements.Joint width significantly influences the stress-deformation response of the gallery.Through comparative analysis of various joint width scenarios,an optimal joint width is recommended.Localized stresses in the gallery are found to exceed the permissible concrete strength in certain regions,where targeted reinforcement is recommended based on the calculation results.关键词
