Abstract

River ice phenology is a critical indicator for ice flood prevention and climate change re-search.Based on moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer(MODIS)snow products,we extracted river ice phenology for the Inner Mongolia reach of the Yellow River from 2002 to 2024,analyzed its spatiotemporal distribution,and explored the effects of climatic and hydrological factors.The results showed that the data gap rate of the NDSI Snow Cover band was reduced to 17.38%by dual-satellite fu-sion and adjacent-date synthesis,and the river ice phenology extracted by the Savitzky-Golay filter and dynamic threshold method achieved high accuracy.In the study reach,freeze-up dates ranged from DOY 322 to DOY 349,with earlier freeze-up in the middle and lower reaches and later freeze-up in the upper reaches,showing a delaying trend(2.38 d/10a).Break-up dates concentrated between DOY 72 and DOY 91,progressing sequentially from upstream to downstream,showing an advancing trend(3.75 d/10a).Ice duration ranged from 97 to 134 days,with shorter duration in the upper reaches and longer duration in the middle and lower reaches(mean ice duration of 109 days),exhibiting a shortening trend(6.13 d/10a).River ice phenology is the result of the combined effects of thermal factors(air tempera-ture,solar radiation)and hydraulic factors(discharge,precipitation),while wind speed has a relative-ly minor influence.
