A Study of the Dragon-Pattern Column Carpet Inscriptions in the Cuoqin Assembly Hall of Kumbum Monastery
摘要
Abstract
The 120 pillars of the Cuoqin Assembly Hall at Kumbum Monastery in Qinghaiare wrapped in dragon-pattern column carpets, most of which were donated by Mongolian devotees. The Mon-golian and Tibetan inscriptions embroidered on these carpets record donors' tribal affiliations, noble titles, and aristocratic identities, constituting significant material evidence for the study of Mongol-Tibetan cultural exchange. The carpets display rich iconographic programs executed with sophisticated weaving techniques, refined color schemes, and intricate patterning, reflecting the dis-tinctive aesthetic sensibilities and craft traditions of both peoples. As liturgical furnishings, the carpets also serve a practical protective function for the wooden pillars, demonstrating the mate-rial preservation wisdom embedded in traditional craft practice.关键词
