A Computational Modeling Study of Decision-Making Function under Emotional Feedback in Individuals with High Borderline Personality Traits

Abstract
Objective:This study aims to examine decision-making performance and its underlying cognitive computa-tional processes under emotional feedback in individuals with high borderline personality traits(BPT),and to reveal the spe-cific mechanism of emotional feedback on decision-making impairment in these individuals.Methods:A total amount of 142 individuals with high BPT and 142 individuals with low BPT were selected from 738 university students.All partici-pants completed a series of psychological scales and the Iowa Gambling Task,including an emotional-feedback variant.Net score was calculated as the behavioral indicator,and the Valence-Plus-Perseverance model was used to estimate decision-making parameters(α,λ,A,K,εpos,εneg,c,and ω).Behavioral indicators and model parameters were compared between the two groups under different feedback types,and partial correlations between model parameters and psychological-scale scores were examined within the high-BPT group.Results:Net scores were significantly higher under emotional feedback than under non-emotional feedback,whereas no significant difference in net scores was found between the two groups.Re-garding decision-making model parameters,under non-emotional feedback,the α parameter was significantly lower in the high-BPT group than in the low-BPT group,whereas this group difference disappeared under emotional feedback.The εneg parameter was significantly higher in the high BPT group than in the low BPT group,and under emotional feedback,the εneg parameter was significantly positively correlated with borderline personality traits scores.Conclusion:Emotional feedback can partially compensate for the deficit in sensitivity to monetary outcomes in individuals with high BPT,but it fails to ame-liorate their aberrant tendency to persist after losses.关键词
