Contractual arrangement,contract execution and digital technology adoption:Evidence from meat duck farmers' intelligent environmental control adoption

Abstract
To clarify the mechanisms through which contractual arrangement and contract execution influence farmers' adoption of digital technologies,this study is based on survey data from 1 197 meat duck farmers across ten provinces in China.Empirical analysis was conducted to examine the effects,underlying mechanisms,and heterogeneity of different contractual arrangements and contract execution by partner enterprises affect farmers' adoption of intelligent environmental control technologies.The results indicated that:1)Various types of contractual arrangements and contract execution significantly enhance technology adoption.2)Mechanism analysis reveals that safeguard-oriented,support-oriented,and constraint-oriented contractual arrangements promote adoption through risk-buffering,cost-reduction,and environmental pressure mechanisms,respectively,while,effective contract execution by partner enterprises amplifies the adoption-promoting effects of these arrangements.3)Heterogeneity analysis shows that contractual arrangements exert stronger effects among farmers operating in partner enterprise-owned farmhouses,whereas support-oriented arrangements are particularly effective for large-scale farmers and those with greater digital information acquisition ability.These findings suggest that partner enterprises should optimize contract design,establish sound supervision and incentive mechanisms for contract execution,and strengthen institutional alignment to better support relatively disadvantaged farmers.关键词
