Effects of different feeding frequencies on agonistic behavior and acoustic characteristics of Litopenaeus vannamei
摘要
Abstract
Litopenaeus vannamei is one of the most economically important farmed shrimp species in the world, with its growth performance and farming profitability heavily influenced by husbandry practices.Traditional farming often relies on experiential feeding, making precise regulation difficult to achieve. This study employed passive acoustic monitoring(PAM)technology to detect the'clicking'sound signals generated by mandible contact during L.vannamei feeding. It investigated the effects of feeding frequency(twice, thrice, and five times daily)on growth performance, agonistic behavior, and acoustic characteristics. The results indicate that feeding frequency significantly influences feed conversion ratio and growth performance metrics, including final body weight, weight gain rate, specific growth rate, survival rate, and condition factor(P<0.05).The total increase in fights did not differ significantly during or after feeding at different frequencies(P>0.05),demonstrating that feeding frequency can modulate group behavioral patterns.Acoustic analysis revealed that both average sound pressure level and peak frequency during feeding significantly increased with higher feeding frequencies.A linear positive correlation was observed between feeding frequency and average sound pressure level(y=4.737x+56.60,R2=0.748).Further correlation analysis revealed a negative relationship between total fight times and the total number of clicks(r=-0.6858~-0.6746),indicating that increasing the total number of clicks was accompanied by a reduction in total fight times. This study further elucidates the intrinsic linkages between feeding frequency, agonistic behavior, and acoustic characteristics:feeding frequency influences acoustic traits by regulating feeding behavior and group interactions, ultimately impacting growth performance. In summary, moderately increasing feeding frequency enhances feeding efficiency, thereby promoting shrimp growth. This research provides theoretical foundations for developing acoustic automated feeding systems, holding significant scientific and practical value for advancing precision feeding management in intensive shrimp farming.关键词
