Abstract

Addressing the issue of high drying shrinkage rate in wheat straw pulp used for the manufacture of pulp molding products,this study investigated the freely drying shrinkage behavior of handsheets made from wheat straw pulp.The influencing factors on the drying shrinkage rate of the papers were analyzed by controlling drying temperature and initial moisture content,combined with beating,screening,and reuse treatments.Finally,the mechanism of drying shrinkage of the papers was elucidated.The results showed that the freely drying shrinkage rate of wheat straw pulp was as high as 14%~19%,exceeding the requirement(≤5%)for pulp molding processes.At a drying tem-perature of 105℃,reducing the initial moisture content of the wet paper web from 89.7%to 53.3%by wet pressing,decreased the drying shrinkage rate of papers from 18.9%to 16.4%.Increasing the beating degree of wheat straw pulp raised the drying shrinkage rate of the pa-pers,while removing fine fractions through screening and twice reusing,the freely drying shrinkage rate of papers made from wheat straw pulp reduced from 19.3%to 9.2%and 12.6%,respectively.Furthermore,the drying shrinkage rate was positively correlated with both the beating degree and the water retention value of the pulp,with a stronger correlation to the water retention value.After in-situ drying at 105℃,the radial shrinkage rate of wheat straw pulp fibers reached approximately 36%,while that of non-fibrous cells was less than 6%.
