Application of dual-track PBL+OTD based on an online teaching and research platform of information ecology theory combined with"Rain Class"in teaching Chinese medicine otolaryngology

Abstract
Objective To report application of dual track problem-oriented learning(PBL)and observation-teaching-discussion(OTD)in teaching of traditional Chinese medicine otolaryngology based on an online information ecological theory teaching and research platform combined with the"rain class".Methods A total of 90 students studying at the Dongzhimen Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine from March 2022 to September 2024 were randomly assigned to the PBL and OTD dual-track teaching with"Rain Class"(study)group(n=45)and a traditional teaching(control)group(n=45).Theoretical knowledge and practical performance,independent learning ability(motivation,self-management,learning ability,communication and cooperation),clinical thinking(communication,adaptation,diagnosis and treatment)and student satisfaction were compared between the two groups.Results The study group demonstrated better knowledge and performance than the control group(P<0.05).Scores of motivation,self-management,learning ability,communication and cooperation all improved in both groups,but more so in the study group than the control group(P<0.05).Scores of communication,adaptability and diagnosis and treatment skills also improved in both groups,and better in the study group than the control group(P<0.05).The study group also reported higher satisfaction scores than that the control group(P<0.05).Conclusions The dual track PBL and OTD based on the online teaching and research platform of information ecological theory combined with"Rain Class"can effectively improve academic performance,independent learning and clinical thinking in TCM otolaryngology students,with improved teaching quality.关键词
