Application of Beck score-based oral care combined with timed stepwise segmented suctioning method in patients undergoing tracheotomy and mechanical ventilation

Abstract
Objective To analyze the effect of Beck score-based oral care combined with timed stepwise segmented suctioning method in patients undergoing tracheostomy and mechanical ventilation.Methods A total of 120 patients undergoing tracheostomy and mechanical ventilation at Jianhu People's Hospital of Jiangsu Province from February 2022 to September 2024 were selected.The patients were divided into an observation group and a control group based on whether they accepted the Beck score-based oral care combined with timed stepwise segmented suctioning,with 60 patients in each group.The control group received routine nursing care,while the observation group received Beck score-based oral care combined with timed stepwise segmented suctioning.The effect of intervention on oral cleanliness,inflammatory response,and clinical comfort were compared between the two groups.Results After 5 days of intervention,the proportions of patients with grades I and Ⅱoral cleanliness in the observation group were higher than those in the control group,while the proportion of patients with grade Ⅲ oral cleanliness in the observation group was lower than that in the control group(P<0.05).After 5 days of intervention,the expression levels of interleukin-6,high-sensitivity C-reactive protein,and tumor necrosis factor-α in the observation group were lower than those in the control group,and the scores of all dimensions of the General Comfort Questionnaire in the observation group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).In both groups,these indicators showed significant improvement compared with baseline values before the intervention(P<0.05).The number of daily sputum suctionings in the observation group was less than that in the control group.After 5 days of intervention,the viscosity of the sputum in the observation group was lower than that in the control group.The duration of mechanical ventilation in the observation group was shorter than that in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Beck score-based oral care combined with timed stepwise segmented suctioning method can significantly improve oral cleanliness,reduce inflammatory responses and the frequency of daily suctioning,lower the viscosity of sputum after 5 days of intervention,shorten the duration of mechanical ventilation,and enhance clinical comfort in patients undergoing tracheostomy and mechanical ventilation.关键词
