Advances in the association between benign prostatic hyperplasia and secondary skeletal disorders
摘要
Abstract
Benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)is the most common urological disorder among middle-aged and older men.Emerging evidence indicates that patients with BPH frequently exhibit secondary skeletal abnormalities,inclu-ding reduced bone mineral density, osteoporosis, and even fragility fractures. These conditions are linked through multiple interconnected mechanisms, including sex hormone imbalance, chronic low-grade inflammation, metabolic dysregula-tion,and activation of the renin-angiotensin system.Based on recent advances in both basic and clinical research, this review systematically summarizes the epidemiological evidence, potential pathophysiological mechanisms, and clinical im-plications underlying the association between BPH and secondary skeletal disorders. It also highlights the importance of early screening, risk stratification, and individualized prevention and management of skeletal complications in patients with BPH,thereby providing insights for improving comprehensive care in this population.关键词
