Advances in jet fuel production from biomass gasification via Fischer-Tropsch synthesis

Abstract
Conventional petroleum-based jet fuel urgently needs to be replaced by low-carbon,cleaner fuels due to issues such as high carbon emissions and environmental pollution.Biomass gasification combined with Fischer-Tropsch(FT)synthesis technology has become the core path of sustainable aviation fuel(SAF)due to its wide adaptability of raw materials,controllable carbon chain of products and more than 80%carbon reduction in the whole life cycle.In this review,we summarize the technical pathway for producing standard jet fuel from biomass,which involves biomass gasification to generate syngas,Fischer-Tropsch(FT)synthesis to produce long-chain hydrocarbons,followed by hydrocracking and isomerization for refining.The key advancements and challenges in FT synthesis catalysts,reactor design,and product selectivity control are discussed.Furthermore,we systematically introduce the innovation achievements of National Institute of Clean-and-Low-Carbon Energy in recent years regarding the above-mentioned SAF production technology.Future efforts should optimize biomass gasification process,develop high-efficiency catalysts,and integrate green hydrogen with carbon capture and storage(CCS)to produce"carbon negative aviation kerosene".This will provide critical support for aviation"carbon neutrality"and the"waste-to-energy"circular economy.关键词
