Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of a compound Bacillus preparation as a substitute for antibiotics in diets for weaned piglets.A total of 108 healthy piglets(35 days of age)with similar nutritional status and no significant difference in body weight were randomly assigned to three treatment groups using a completely randomized design.Each treatment consisted of three replicates with 12 piglets per replicate.Piglets in the control group were fed a basal diet,those in the antibiotic group re-ceived the basal diet supplemented with 0.04%antibiotics,and those in the compound Bacillus group re-ceived the basal diet supplemented with 0.04%compound Bacillus preparation.The experiment included a 5-day adaptation period followed by a 28-day experimental period.The results showed that,compared with the control group,the antibiotic group had a significantly lower diarrhea rate(P<0.05),whereas no sig-nificant differences were observed in other growth performance parameters(P>0.05).Similarly,no sig-nificant differences in growth performance were observed in the compound Bacillus group(P>0.05).Compared with the control group,the apparent digestibility of crude protein was significantly increased in the antibiotic group(P<0.05),whereas the apparent digestibility of crude protein,crude fiber,and phos-phorus was significantly increased in the compound Bacillus group(P<0.05).No significant differences were found in serum biochemical parameters,including total protein,albumin,globulin,and blood urea nitrogen,between either treatment group and the control group(P>0.05).In addition,the antibiotic group showed a significantly higher serum IgA concentration than the control group(P<0.05),while the compound Bacillus group exhibited significantly higher serum IgG and IgA concentrations(P<0.05).In conclusion,dietary supplementation with the compound Bacillus preparation exerted beneficial effects on weaned piglets and could partially replace antibiotics in piglet diets.
