Abstract
Objective To compare the short-term clinical outcomes of meniscal suture and meniscal plasty in the treatment of horizontal tears(grade Ⅲ)of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus of the knee joint.Methods A retrospective analysis was performed on 70 patients who underwent arthroscopic knee surgery for horizontal tears(grade Ⅲ)of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus between June 2022 and June 2024 at Nanjing Jiangbei Hospital.These patients were divided into two groups:the suture group(n=35)and the meniscal plasty group(n=35).The operative time,intraoperative blood loss,length of hospital stay,pre-and postoperative visual analogue scale(VAS)scores for pain,Lysholm scores for knee function,and postoperative complication rates were compared between the two groups.Results The suture group was followed up for 6 to 11 months,with a mean follow-up of(7.94±1.43)months;the meniscal plasty group was followed up for 6 to 12 months,with a mean of(8.40±1.59)months.Operative time was significantly longer in the suture group than in the meniscal plasty group(P<0.05),whereas no statistically significant differences were observed in intraoperative blood loss or length of hospital stay(P>0.05).Both groups showed significant reductions in VAS scores and improvements in Lysholm scores at 1 and 6 months postoperatively compared to baseline(P<0.05).No significant differences in VAS scores were observed between the two groups at either 1 or 6 months postoperatively(P>0.05).At 1 month postoperatively,there was no significant difference in Lysholm scores between the groups(P>0.05);however,at 6 months postoperatively,the suture group demonstrated significantly higher Lysholm scores than the meniscal plasty group(P<0.05).The complication rate was 5.71%in the suture group and 2.86%in the meniscal plasty group,with no statistically significant difference between the groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Both meniscal suture and meniscal plasty yield favorable short-term clinical outcomes in treating horizontal tears(grade Ⅲ)of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus.However,meniscal suture offers superior improvement in knee joint function without increasing the risk of postoperative complications.关键词
