Effect of helicobacter pylori infection on adult homocysteine level and pulse wave velocity

Abstract
Objective:To investigate the association between helicobacter pylori infection and serum homocysteine(Hcy)levels as well as brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity(baPWV),and to assess whether helicobacter pylori infection is an independent risk factor for hyperhomocysteinemia and arterial stiffness.Methods:A total of 6 207 adults who underwent physical examinations at our hospital from January 2022 to December 2023 were included.The subjects were divided into the helicobacter pylori positive group and the helicobacter pylori negative group based on the results of the 13C urea breath test.Linear regression analysis was used to evaluate the linear association between helicobacter pylori infection and Hcy as well as baPWV.Further,multivariate logistic regression was employed to construct models for high Hcy(≥15 μmol/L)and high baPWV(≥1 800 cm/s),and sensitivity analysis was conducted.Results:There was no significant linear correlation between helicobacter pylori infection and Hcy or baPWV.High Hcy increased the risk of helicobacter pylori positive individuals(P<0.001),and the risk of having high baPWV was significantly increased(P<0.001).The results of the sensitivity analysis were consistent.Conclusions:There is no significant linear correlation between helicobacter pylori infection and Hcy or baPWV.However,helicobacter pylori infection significantly increases the risk of high Hcy levels and arterial stiffness.Helicobacter pylori infection may affect vascular elasticity through inflammatory responses,nutrient absorption disorders,or metabolic pathways.关键词
