Analysis of the Experiences of Modern Renowned Physicians in Liaoning Region in Treating Spleen and Stomach Diseases

Abstract
The spleen and stomach theory of traditional Chinese medicine in the Liaoning region(the"Liao School")is rooted in the unique climate,diverse culture,and dietary habits of Northeast China.It has developed into a distinctive academic system with regional characteristics through long-term clinical practice.This paper aims to systematically explore its theoretical origins and the clinical experiences of modern renowned physicians.Firstly,starting from the regional pathogenic characteristics,it analyzes the influence of Liaoning's cold climate,high-fat and rich diet,and diverse immigrant culture on the complex pathogenesis of spleen and stomach diseases,characterized by"intermingled cold,heat,deficiency,and excess".Secondly,it traces the theoretical origins of the Liao School's spleen and stomach theory,which is grounded in the Inner Canon and Treatise on Cold Damage,and deeply influenced by Li Dongyuan's Treatise on the Spleen and Stomach and the Qing Dynasty's The Golden Mirror of Medicine.The core section examines the academic thoughts and clinical characteristics of multiple representative physicians from the Qing Dynasty to modern times—such as Qing Shu,Jing Xian,Zhang Xichun,Hu Wankui,Liu Runcang,Li Yuqi,and Li Shoushan.While each physician has their own strengths—for example,Qing Shu emphasized the ascent and descent of qi dynamics and"dampness of the earth as a cause of disease",Zhang Xichun integrated Chinese and Western medicine and excelled in regulating ascent and descent,and Li Yuqi pioneered"treating atrophic gastritis as an abscess"—they collectively exhibit six common academic characteristics:valuing classical texts while daring to innovate,integrating Chinese and Western medicine with openness and inclusiveness,adhering to the importance of qi dynamics ascent and descent,emphasizing comprehensive diagnosis with particular attention to the tongue and pulse,creating new formulations,and prioritizing spleen and stomach care in health preservation.Through literature research,this paper reveals the developmental trajectory of the Liao School's spleen and stomach theory,which integrates regional,and innovative characteristics.Its rich experience and unique theoretical insights hold significant reference value for the modern diagnosis and treatment of spleen and stomach diseases.关键词
