Abstract

Objective:To explore appropriate statistical benchmarks for the production statistics of Chinese medicinal materials(CMM),balancing data quality with costs,thereby providing robust data support for the high-quality development of the traditional Chinese medicine industry.Methods:Using the county as the spatial unit,the cumulative percentage of planting area was calculated in descending order.At 5%increments,the number of counties and their respective planting areas corresponding to cumulative area percentages ranging from 60%to 95%were quantified.Through global spatial autocorrelation and hotspot analysis,the number of counties and planting areas across different cumulative area percentages were compared among hotspot clusters,coldspot clusters,and statistically insignificant zones,and then an appropriate statistical benchmark for large-scale cultivation was defined.Results:On the national scale,when a 90%cumulative area percentage was used as a reference,the statistical benchmark for large-scale cultivation should be set at 20 000 mu(1 mu≈666.67 m2).If an 80%cumulative area percentage was used as a reference,the benchmark should be 40 000 mu.Spatial analysis indicated that referencing a 90%cumulative area percentage with a 20 000 mu benchmark effectively captured most planting area patterns within hotspot clusters.On the provincial scale,analytical outcomes varied across provinces.However,referencing the 90%cumulative area percentage accurately reflected the situation in the majority of provinces.Conclusion:It is recommended that the 90%cumulative area percentage be used as a reference and 20 000 mu as the statistical benchmark can be used for the statistics of large-scale cultivation of CMM.Specifically,CMM production statistics should be reported when the CMM planting area within a given county reaches 20 000 mu.
