Digital economy empowering the resilience of the manufacturing industry chain:Mechanism identification and nonlinear effects

Abstract
Enhancing the resilience of the manufacturing industrial chain is a priority in building a modern industrial system,with digital economy serving as a key driving force.Based on panel data from 31 provinces in China from 2011 to 2023,this study employs a two-way fixed effect model,a mediation effect model,and a threshold effect model to empirically examine the driving effect,mechanisms,and nonlinear effects of digital economy on the resilience of the manufacturing industrial chain.The findings reveal that digital economy has a significant positive driving effect on the resilience of the manufacturing industrial chain.This conclusion remains valid after robustness and endogeneity tests.Digital economy has the strongest facilitating effect on the recovery capacity of firms,with more pronounced effects in eastern and western regions.Mechanism analysis shows that the digital economy indirectly enhances the resilience of the manufacturing industrial chain by incentivizing green technology innovation and promoting industrial structure upgrading.Furthermore,a single threshold effect based on science and technology expenditure is identified,indicating that the promoting effect of the digital economy on industrial chain resilience increases significantly when such expenditure exceeds the threshold.Therefore,policies should focus on strengthening digital infrastructure,promoting the three-axis linkage of digitalization,green development and high-end upgrading,and optimizing investments in science and technology to fully leverage the key driving role of digital economy and support the construction of a modern industrial system.关键词
