Spatial reconstruction of rural settlements in world heritage sites from the perspective of balancing heritage conservation and tourism development:A case study of Mount Wutai Scenic Area(1972-2024)

Abstract
The process of rural reconstruction in world heritage sites is accompanied by a deep game between heritage conservation and tourism development.To reveal the mechanism of rural settlements reconstruction in world heritage sites,taking the Mount Wutai Scenic Area,which combines Buddhist cultural characteristics and the pattern of"village and temple coexistence",as the research object,the research framework of"process-pattern-mechanism-impact"was adopted combined with methods such as GIS spatial analysis,Lasso regression model,and field investigation.The characteristics,driving mechanisms,and multi-dimensional influencing factors of rural settlement spatial reconstruction from 1972 to 2024 were systematically explored.The results reveal that:1)The spatial reconstruction of rural settlements in Mount Wutai has gone through three stages:the rapid expansion period driven by tourism,the adjustment and transformation period for world heritage conservation,and the improvement and development period of dynamic balance.2)In terms of spatial pattern presentation,it features a stratification differentiation centered on the Taihuai Temple cluster,and the development and expansion of the residential areas are in line with the functional division of labor,forming a differentiated development pattern where the core circle controls and contracts,the near-core circle takes over and expands,and the far-core circle supplements and grows.3)The driving mechanism undergoes dynamic transformation at different stages.The restrictive role of natural geographical factors gradually weakens.The distribution of temples and the influence of transportation locations show phased differences.The coupling effect of policy control and the development of the tourism market continues to strengthen.4)Spatial reconstruction has triggered multi-dimensional reconstruction of the economy,society,and culture of heritage sites.Based on this,a multi-dimensional coordinated development path of space,economy,society and culture with refined spatial governance as the core is proposed,aiming to provide theoretical references for the sustainable development and spatial planning of rural areas in similar world heritage sites.关键词
