Effect of just world belief on bullying bystander intervention among adolescents:mediating role of moral identity and moderating role of classroom climate

Abstract
Objective To explore the relationship between just world belief and bullying bystander intervention arnong adolescents,and investigate the mediating effect of moral identity and the moderating effect of class climate.Methods A total of 1 003 adolescents were investigated by using just world belief scale,moral identity scale,students,perceived interpersonal harmony in class,and bullying bystander intervention scale.The relevant data were statistically analyzed.Results Just world belief positively predicted bullying bystander intervention(β=0.19,t=6.31,P<0.01).Moral identity played a mediating role between just world belief and bullying bystander intervention(β=0.06,95%CI:0.041 to 0.085).The interaction terms between just world belief and classroom climate,as well as between moral identity and classroom climate,both significantly positively predicted bullying bystander intervention(β=0.12,t=3.99,P<0.01;β=0.17,t=5.89,P<0.01).Simple slope test showed that among adolescents in the high classroom climate group(M+1SD),the positive effect of just world belief on bullying bystander intervention increased significantly(βsimple=0.24,SE=0.04,t=5.84,P<0.01,95%CI:0.157 to 0.317),and the effect of moral identity on bullying bystander intervention was significant(βsimple=0.39,SE=0.04,t=9.35,P<0.01,95%CI:0.308 to 0.472).Conclusion Adolescents'just world belief can directly affect bullying bystander intervention,and also exert an indirect effect through moral identity.Classroom climate moderates the direct effect of just world belief on bullying bystander intervention,as well as the relationship between moral identity and bullying bystander intervention.关键词
