Abstract
In backfill with finite width, when the soil reached active limit equilibrium, the failure surface divided the backfill into upper and lower parts.Considering the soil arching effect and the influence of the intermediate principal stress in the soil behind the retaining wall,a theoretical formula for calculating the active earth pressure on finite soil masses was established using the horizontal differential slice method. The rationality of the theoretical solution was verified by numerical results. The results show that the failure angle of the finite soil mass is slightly smaller than the Rankine failure angle, and the error from using the Rankine failure angle is relatively small. The active earth pressure in finite backfill is distributed like a convex curve, with the maximum pressure occurring in Zone Ⅱ,within the height range of 0.80H to 0.90H.When B/H≤0.1,Hc decreases as B increases. When B/H>0.1,Hc=0.40(H-zc).The parameter b(intermediate principal stress coefficient)affects σh within the range of 0 to 0.5.As b increases,σh decreases and zc increases, while the relationship between Hc and(H-zc)remains essentially unchanged regardless of variations in b.关键词
