Abstract

Glutamine synthetase(GS)is responsible for the primary assimilation of ammonium in higher plants.Ammonium is assimilated to glutamine and glutamate through successive reactions between GS and glu-tamate synthase,and GS plays a crucial role in nitrogen metabolism.The aim of this study was to comprehen-sively identify the members of peanut GS genes,analyze their physicochemical properties,conserved struc-tures,phylogenetic tree and tissue expression patterns,and characterize and analyze their functions.Thirteen GS gene family members of peanut were found to be distributed on 10 chromosomes.The results of phylogenetic tree analysis showed that 27 GS proteins from Arabidopsis thaliana,soybean and peanut were classified into three subgroups.Through the analysis of the phylogenetic tree and the conserved structures,among the 13 GS gene family members,six ones were distributed in the Arachis duranensis(AA)genome,and 6 ones were dis-tributed in the Arachis ipaensis(BB)genome,which constituted 6 pairs of homologous genes.Through the dis-covery of the tissue expression pattern of GS genes,each GS gene was generally involved in tissue develop-ment,and the relative expression levels of some genes were significantly up-regulated under salt stress and drought stress.The peanut GS gene promoters contained multiple cis-acting elements,suggesting that peanut GS genes should be involved in peanut growth and development and a variety of adversity responsive processes,which was consistent with the function of the GS gene family.The above study results of peanut GS family genes could provide a theoretical basis for future in depth research of the functions of peanut GS gene family.
