Preparation and electrochemical performance of an aqueous polymer electrolyte for highly stable zinc-ion batteries
摘要
Abstract
The electrochemical stability of zinc anodes in aqueous zinc-ion batteries is severely limited by hydrogen evolution, corrosion, and dendrite growth, posing major challenges for long-term cycling and high-rate applications. In this study,a novel macromolecular polymer-based electrolyte salt system(MS electrolyte)was designed to regulate both the electrolyte microstructure and zinc anode interface through the abundant functional groups and long-chain conformation of the polymer chains.Successful polymer synthesis was confirmed by 1H NMR and FTIR spectroscopy. The MSE was then prepared by dissolving the polymer in deionized water, with a conventional 1 mol/L ZnSO4 aqueous solution used as the control.Electrochemical tests demonstrated that the MSE significantly suppresses interfacial side reactions and dendrite growth at the zinc anode:Zn-Zn symmetric cells yielded a 600 h cycle life at 1 mA/cm2/1 mA/cm2 and maintained stable cycling for 90 h even under harsh conditions(10 mA/cm2/10 mA/cm2).Zn-Cu asymmetric cells delivered an average Coulombic efficiency of 99.3%over 300 cycles.Furthermore,Zn-I2 cells gave a capacity retention of 86.1%after 1000 cycles at a current density of 1 A/g.Post-cycling characterization, further confirmed that the MSE suppressed interfacial corrosion and side reactions. This work provides an effective strategy for developing aqueous zinc-ion electrolytes that combine low water activity, high ionic transport capability, and superior interfacial stability, offering valuable insights for the design of high-performance aqueous zinc-ion batteries.关键词
