Abstract
Against the backdrop of regenerating existing urban fabrics and improving governance,temporary use has emerged as an important approach to urban organic regeneration due to its low-cost,reversibility,and experimental nature.This paper adopts an integrated methodology combining a systematic literature review,compara-tive conceptual analysis,and CiteSpace-assisted bibliometric validation to examine the conceptual genealogy and theoretical evolution of research on temporary use.The findings indicate that this field has undergone three interrelated theoretical shifts:a reassessment of temporary use from an"urban problem"to an"urban cata-lyst";a methodological transition from"spontaneous practice"to"tactical experi-ment";and an institutional shift from"local intervention"to"strategic governance".Following the analytical framework of"practical context-conceptual emergence-theoretical evolution",the paper develops a three-dimensional terminological system organized around temporal orientation,governance orientation,and action logic.It fur-ther identifies three sets of structural tensions:temporary versus permanent,bottom-up versus top-down,and spatial activation versus gentrification.This paper argues that research on temporary use should move beyond typological classification and de-scriptive case studies toward mechanism-based explanation,with particular attention to revealing the formation pathways,operating conditions,and institutional boundar-ies of its catalytic effects.In doing so,it provides a better explanatory theoretical framework for understanding flexible governance in urban organic regeneration.关键词
