Synergistic efficacy and toxicity-reducing effects of Fuyuan Fuheng Decoction in chemotherapy for patients with advanced and locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer:based on T-lymphocyte subsets,tumor markers,and adverse reactions

Abstract
Objective To investigate the synergistic efficacy and toxicity-reducing effects of Fuyuan Fuheng Decoction in chemotherapy for patients with advanced and locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC),based on T-lymphocyte subsets,tumor markers,and adverse reactions.Methods A total of 112 patients with advanced and locally advanced NSCLC were divided into two groups according to treatment regimen,with 56 cases in each group.The control group received platinum-based chemotherapy,while the study group received Fuyuan Fuheng Decoction in addition to the treatment given to the control group.Both groups were treated for 3 chemotherapy cycles.Short-term efficacy,tumor markers(squamous cell carcinoma antigen[SCC],neuron-specific enolase[NSE],carbohydrate antigen 125[CA125],cytokeratin 19 fragment[CYFRA21-1]),T-lymphocyte subsets(CD3+,CD4+,CD4+/CD8+),prognosis-related indicators(β2-microglobulin[β2-MG],red blood cell distribution width[RDW],D-dimer[D-D]),traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndrome scores,Karnofsky performance status(KPS),Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Lung(FACT-L)scores,and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups.Results The short-term efficacy in the study group was superior to that in the control group(82.14%[46/56]vs 62.50%[35/56],P<0.05).After 1 and 3 chemotherapy cycles,serum SCC,NSE,CA125,and CYFRA21-1 levels decreased in both groups compared with baseline(P<0.05),and the levels in the study group were lower than those in the control group at the same time points(P<0.05).After 1 and 3 chemotherapy cycles,peripheral blood CD3+,CD4+,and CD4+/CD8+levels decreased in both groups compared with baseline(P<0.05),while these indices were higher in the study group than in the control group at the same time points(P<0.05).After 1 and 3 chemotherapy cycles,serum β2-MG,RDW,and D-D levels decreased in both groups compared with baseline(P<0.05),and were lower in the study group than in the control group at the same time points(P<0.05).After 1 and 3 chemotherapy cycles,TCM syndrome scores decreased in both groups compared with baseline(P<0.05),whereas KPS and FACT-L scores increased(P<0.05).The study group had lower TCM syndrome scores and higher KPS and FACT-L scores than the control group at the same time points(P<0.05).The incidences of gastrointestinal reactions,myelosuppression,and fatigue were lower in the study group than in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Fuyuan Fuheng Decoction can alleviate the impact of chemotherapy on T-lymphocyte subsets in patients with NSCLC and further reduce serum tumor marker levels,thereby lowering the risk of adverse reactions and exerting synergistic efficacy and toxicity-reducing effects.关键词
