Electroacupuncture as an Adjuvant Therapy for Acute Ischemic Stroke:A Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Abstract
Objective To systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of electroacupuncture in the treatment of acute ischemic stroke(AIS)within 7 days of onset. Methods Randomized controlled trials(RCT)on electroacupuncture therapy for AIS within 7 days of onset were retrieved from CNKI,VIP,Wanfang,Cochrane Library,PubMed,Embase,and Web of Science databases from inception to March 2026.Two researchers independently screened the literature,extracted data,and assessed methodological quality using the Cochrane risk of bias tool.Meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3 software to evaluate the efficacy and safety between the control group(conventional treatment)and the electroacupuncture group(electroacupuncture combined with conventional treatment). Results A total of 23 RCTs involving 2243 patients were included,with 1113 patients in the control group(conventional treatment)and 1130 patients in the electroacupuncture group(electroacupuncture combined with conventional treatment).Meta-analysis results showed that the electroacupuncture group showed significantly higher total effective rate and Fugl-Meyer assessment scores,as well as significantly lower NIHSS scores and serum tumor necrosis factor-α levels compared with the control group(all P<0.05).Adverse events were reported in three studies,and no serious adverse events occurred. Conclusions The results of this study indicate that electroacupuncture can improve neurological deficits and motor function,reduce inflammatory factor levels,and has a favorable safety profile in AIS patients.Due to the limitations in the number and quality of included studies,the above conclusions still need to be validated by more high-quality,large-scale RCTs.关键词
