Abstract
Addressing the frequent occurrence of surface cracks, particularly the high proportion of shallow corner cracks in medium-to-large round steel during high-speed rolling, this study investigates the coupled effects of pass geometry and rolling rhythm on crack formation.Through defect analysis, metallographic examination, and process tracing, continuous casting residuals, insufficient pass support, and thermal stress gradients are identified as the main causes of cracking.Thermo-mechanical coupling simulations indicate that the 5th to 7th roughing passes are high-risk zones for cracking, with cracks propagating along corner stress concentration paths.Accordingly,an integrated strategy involving sidewall taper adjustment, groove optimization, and zone-based rolling speed control is proposed.Pilot rolling trials demonstrate that this scheme significantly reduces the crack incidence and improves surface quality and product consistency, providing a theoretical basis for process optimization.关键词
