Abstract
In recent years, the stock exchanges in Hong Kong,Shanghai,Shenzhen, and Beijing have progressively strengthened environmental, social, and governance(ESG)disclosure requirements, presenting new challenges for Chinese oil and gas enterprises in improving their sustainability practices and management systems. This paper conducts a comparative analysis of the first ESG reports released by China National Petroleum Corporation,Sinopec, and China National Offshore Oil Corporation following the implementation of the updated disclosure requirements. The results show that these companies have generally met the current regulatory requirements but gaps remain in the depth of materiality disclosure, climate governance mechanisms, and the quantification of financial impacts, indicating that further improvements are needed to achieve full compliance with the disclosure standards by 2026.It also shows that Chinese oil and gas companies have improved their ESG governance structures, adopted the four-pillar framework of governance, strategy, risk management, and metrics and targets for ESG disclosure, made progress in climate risk identification, scenario analysis, and Scope 3 emissions disclosure. This study suggests that Chinese oil and gas enterprises should continuously monitor evolving ESG disclosure requirements, strengthen financial impact assessments,Scope 3 emissions accounting, and optimization of reporting frameworks, improve identification assessment of climate risks and opportunities, and enhance empowerment by digital intelligence in terms of management enhancement, and implement a"dual carbon"regarding industrial development so as to effectively promote the integration development of oil and gas operations with new energy as well as actively utilize green financial instruments to reduce transition costs.关键词
