Multigenerational exposure to nickel nanoparticles:inte-grated physiological effects and population fitness in a marine copepod
摘要
Abstract
To assess the long-term ecological risks of nanometal pollutants to marine zooplankton, this study used the dominant copepod in the East China Sea,Acartia pacifica,as a model organism in multi-generational nano-nickel exposure experiments. The experiment set environmentally relevant concentration gradients(0.01 and 1.0 mg/L)and systematically measured key physiological and ecological parameters from the F0-exposed generation to the F2 recovery generation, including hatchability, survival rate, development times(including nauplius and gen-eration development times),female ratio, fecal pellets, oviposition, and growth rate(body length, body width).Nano-nickel significantly affected the physiology of Acartia pacifica in a dose-dependent and time-accumulative manner.Compared with the control, low concentration(0.01 mg/L)exposure did not significantly impact reproduc-tive parameters but significantly inhibited feeding capacity in the F0 and F1 generations(P<0.05),reflected by a decline in fecal pellets by 11.6%and 17.6%,respectively.Similarly,high concentration(1.0 mg/L)exposure com-prehensively suppressed growth and reproduction(P<0.05),reducing hatchability by 8.25%and 10.43%in the F0 and F1 generations, respectively. The survival rate of the F1 generation decreased by 12.02%,with feeding and re-productive capacities being co-inhibited.In the F2 generation, after exposure removal, although a few growth and reproductive indicators recovered, the feeding function did not fully recover in the high concentration group(P<0.05),with fecal production still significantly lower than the control by 1.69%.These results confirmed that nano-nickel can exert persistent multigenerational effects on key physiological functions in copepods, with residual impacts even after pollutant removal. This study reveals the potential long-term ecological risks of nano-nickel and provides experimental evidence crucial for improving the risk assessment of emerging pollutants in the marine en-vironment.关键词
