Abstract
The Khovd Khushuut Coal Mine is an open-pit production mine with little preliminary exploration da-ta and no engineering geological research work has been carried out in the mining area.To ensure safe and effi-cient mining,a comprehensive investigation into the engineering geological characteristics of the mining area has been carried out.The research results indicate that the strata of the mining area consist of terrigenous sedi-mentary rocks of the Upper Permian Series,which can be classified into two rock mass groups:weak rock mass group and moderately hard to hard rock mass group.The weak rock mass group(including argillaceous silt-stone,sandy mudstone,etc.)accounts for more than 80％of the total strata.The natural uniaxial compres-sive strength of these rocks is mostly less than 30 MPa,and the rocks are prone to softening and disintegration when exposed to water.The overall engineering geological classification of the mining area is medium(strati-fied rock mass).It is predicted that open-pit mining may trigger local slope failures,surface cracking and other geological hazards.Corresponding countermeasures are proposed,including controlled blasting,enhanced drain-age and continuous slope monitoring.This study provides geological support for mining scheme design and slope stability control of the mine.关键词
