民国时期预防传染病中西医结合思路研究
Research on the integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine in preventing infectious diseases during the Republican period:a case study centered on Methods for Preventing Infectious Diseases

Abstract
The Republican period(1912-1949)represented a critical historical stage in which Traditional Chinese Medicine faced both an existential crisis and a process of self-reform.Methods for Preventing Infectious Diseases,a represen-tative work of the Shanxi Association for TCM Improvement,emerged at a historical juncture marked by the intense collision between Chinese and Western medicine and the initial construction of local epidemic prevention systems.It stands not only as an important practical achievement of TCM's participation in the establishment of modern public health systems but also as a core text reflecting TCM's conscious examination and assimilation of Western medicine and culture.Based on historical textual research and discourse analysis,this study takes Methods for Preventing Infectious Diseases as its research object and systematically examines the early integrative approaches to Chinese and Western medicine embedded in the work from three dimensions:the reorganization of disease spectrum,the reconstruction of pathogen cognition,and the integration of preven-tion and treatment systems,thereby exploring its academic value and historical significance.The study finds that the core connotation of the integrative paradigm of Chinese and Western medicine during the Republican period is embodied in the principle of"taking Chinese medicine as the foundation and Western medicine as the instrument"."Taking Chinese medi-cine as the foundation"signifies that the holistic concept,syndrome differentiation and treatment thinking,and the preventive philosophy of"treating before disease onset"in TCM consistently serve as the underpinning of the work."Taking Western medicine as the instrument"refers to the selective incorporation of specific tools and methods from Western medicine—such as pathogen theory,anatomical knowledge,bacterial culture techniques,vaccines,and chemical disinfectants—to enrich and refine TCM theories and techniques.This model echoes Zhang Xichun's thought of"assimilating Western knowledge while centering on Chinese medicine"as articulated in his work Records of Chinese Medicine with Reference to Western Medicine,representing a mainstream pathway for TCM modernization during the Republican period.The integrative thinking embodied therein provides important historical reference for the later formation of the concepts of"integrative Chinese and Western medicine"and"equal emphasis on Chinese and Western medicine",and continues to hold significant reference value for contemporary infectious disease prevention and the modernization of TCM.关键词
