Abstract
Objective To identify the issues in the coding of common surgical procedures for laryngeal cancer.Methods This paper introduces relevant anatomical knowledge of the larynx,lists common surgical procedures for laryngeal cancer and their corresponding ICD-9-CM-3 codes,and analyzes the causes of coding errors by combining the National Clinical Version 3.0 coding system with classic clinical cases.Results Excision of laryngeal lesions is coded as 30.0,partial laryngectomy as 30.1 and 30.2,and total laryngectomy under 30.3 and 30.4.According to the surgical records,additional codes are required for sec-ondary procedures such as neck lymph node dissection,laryngeal function reconstruction,and temporary tracheotomy.Conclu-sion Coders should carefully review surgical records and accurately understand surgical terminology,and take measures to stand-ardize the documentation of surgical records and surgical names.Strengthening communication with clinicians can also help re-duce issues such as incorrect,excessive,or missing surgical codes.关键词
