Tai Yi Ju in the Northern Song Dynasty:Institutional Formation and Evolution amid Political Reform

Abstract
Through the analysis of the political root of the change of Tai Yi Ju(太医局Bureau of Imperial Physicians),the establishment,development,and eventual decline of Tai Yi Ju in the Northern Song Dynasty were closely intertwined with the political reforms of the era.Influenced by the Qingli Reform,Tai Yi Ju was officially established,in order to meet the reform's need for cultivating specialized professionals.Inf luenced by the Xifeng Reform,Tai Yi Ju experienced two changes in institutional affiliation,acquired the functions of making and selling prepared medicines,and was responsible for supervising the government pharmacy,becoming a fiscal institution serving the reform.By the reign of Emperor Huizong,the primary institution for medical education became Tai Yi Xue(太医学School for Imperial Physicians),while Tai Yi Ju gradually declined.Political reform itself has both positive and negative effects on medical education.This research from the perspective of political reform can provide a historical reference for the current medical reform to play the positive role of policies.关键词
