摘要
Abstract
The Canon of Medicine is one of the most influential medical classics in medieval Eurasia, preserving medical knowledge from Greek,Persian,Indian, and Chinese traditions. This paper systematically examines fifteen substances in The Canon of Medicine that are explicitly marked as Chinese or can be matched with Chinese materia medica, focusing on their source, name, property, efficacy, and modes of use,and compares them with Chinese Ben Cao(本草 materia medica)texts such as Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing(《神农本草经》Shennong's Classic of the Materia Medica),Xin Xiu Ben Cao(《新修本草》Newly Revised Materia Medica),and Ben Cao Gang Mu(《本草纲目》The Grand Compendium of Materia Medica). The study shows that the reception of Chinese materia medica in The Canon of Medicine was not a simple transcription;rather, they were reinterpreted within the Iranian medical framework of hot, cold, dry, wet qualities and humoral theory. But many of these substances retained core functions recognized in Chinese Ben Cao,including regulating qi,warming the middle, clearing heat, and removing toxins. This suggests that the medical transmission along the Silk Road was not only a matter of material circulation, but also a process of knowledge translation and theoretical reconstruction. The compilation and analysis of the Chinese materia medica in The Canon of Medicine not only helps deepen our understanding of the history of Sino-Iranian medical exchange but also provides new documentary evidence for the study of the cross-cultural transmission of medical knowledge.关键词
