Evaluation on Combined Immunization Efficacy of Ovine Vaccines on Moderate-scale Farms

Abstract
In order to evaluate the combined immunization efficacy of ovine vaccines on moderate-scale farms,an experiment concerning simultaneous multi-vaccine site-specific vaccination was conducted on 6 farms,each with an inventory of 50-300 sheep in Changji Prefecture,Xinjiang,during the centralized autumn immunization period in 2025,where a simultaneous multi-vaccine split-site combined immunization mode comprising four vaccines against peste des petits ruminants(PPR),foot-and-mouth disease(FMD),sheep pox(SP),and contagious caprine pleuropneumonia(CCPP),was implemented,while the conventional sequential immunization schedule was adopted by the control group,for the purpose of a systematic comparison between the two vaccination protocols regarding clinical adverse reactions and antibody qualification rates in sheep populations.The results showed that some adverse reactions were observed in 7-8 sheep in each group during the 7-day observation period after immunization,but no death was found;on the 21st day after immunization,the antibody qualification rates for all tested vaccines in both the control and experimental groups were above 80％,in particular,those for PPR,CCPP and SP in the experimental group were above 90％,only the rate for FMD was slightly lower than that of the control group;the rates in weaned lambs were generally lower than those in sheep of other age groups,in particular,the rate for FMD was less than 60％;and the rates for different vaccines in different breeds of sheep were all above 70％.In conclusion,the combined immunization with ovine vaccines was safe and efficient,and applicable to moderate-scale farms,as it would simplify the immunization process,improve the efficiency of local disease prevention,which should be promoted and applied on local farms;but it was not recommended to primarily vaccinate lambs on a large scale for the time being,as certain interference on the immune efficacy against FMD was produced by the combined immunization.Therefore,the combined formulation and immunization schedule of FMD vaccine with other vaccines should be further optimized in the future.关键词
