摘要
Abstract
Objective:The transition to university is a critical developmental period marked by pronounced changes in psychological adjustment. The current study examined the heterogeneous self-esteem trajectories during the university tran-sition and their associated outcomes, and investigated whether life stress events and social support predicted trajectory mem-bership,in order to better elucidate patterns of self-esteem development and their implications for university students' psy-chological adjustment. Methods:A one-year longitudinal study with four measurement waves was conducted among 582 freshmen.Self-esteem,life stress events, social support, and adjustment outcomes(i.e.,life satisfaction, depressive symp-toms,and problematic smartphone use)were assessed. Results:Overall self-esteem levels showed a declining trend over the college transition period.Three distinct self-esteem trajectory groups were identified:a high self-esteem-stable group(25.95%),a moderate self-esteem-declining group(53.44%),and a low self-esteem-declining group(20.62%).Higher lev-els of stressful life events increased the likelihood of belonging to the low self-esteem-declining group, whereas higher lev-els of social support increased the likelihood of belonging to the high self-esteem-stable group.Significant differences were observed among the trajectory groups in depression, life satisfaction, and mobile phone addiction, with the high self-esteem-stable group exhibiting the most adaptive outcomes.Conclusion:Self-esteem development during the college tran-sition period demonstrates substantial heterogeneity.Identifying individuals with declining self-esteem trajectory and pro-viding timely support may play an important role in promoting positive adaptation.关键词
