The Effect of Cultural Confidence on Prosocial Behavior:The Role of Zhongyong Thinking Style and Attention Bias

Abstract
Objective:To explore the influence of cultural confidence on prosocial behavior and the role of the Zhongyong thinking style and attention bias.Methods:In Study 1,454 participants were recruited to complete the Cultural Confidence Inventory,Zhongyong Thinking Style Scale,Attention to Positive and Negative Information Scale,and Prosocial Tendencies Measure to explore the effect of cultural confidence on prosocial behavior.Study 2 used a single-factor between-subjects experimental design.A total of 223 participants were assigned to high or low cultural confidence groups and completed the Prosocial Tendencies Measure and prosocial behavior intention situational tasks to measure prosocial be-havior,further examining the causal relationship between cultural confidence and prosocial behavior.Results:(1)Cultural confidence significantly positively predicted prosocial behavior;(2)Cultural confidence indirectly affected prosocial behav-ior through the separate mediation of the Zhongyong thinking style and positive information attention bias,as well as the chain mediation of both factors.Conclusion:Higher levels of cultural confidence were associated with a stronger Zhongyong thinking style,which in turn facilitated attentional bias toward positive information and ultimately increased pro-social behavior.关键词
