Cross-lagged analysis and longitudinal mediation model of maternal work-family conflict and anxiety of primary school new students

Abstract
Objective:To explore the relationship between maternal work-family conflict and primary school new students' anxiety,as well as its underlying mechanism.Methods:In October 2024(T1)and April 2025(T2),a two-wave longitudinal study was conducted among 231 mothers of new first-grade primary school students.The Children's anxiety scale(CAS),Children's Self-Efficacy Scale(CSES),Work-Family Conflict Scale(WFCS)were used to measure anxiety,self-efficacy,and maternal work-family conflict.Results:Cross-lagged analysis showed that T1 WFCS scores positively predicted T2 CAS scores(β=0.05,P＜0.05),T1 WFCS scores negatively predicted T2 CSES scores(β=-0.10,P＜0.01),T1 CSES scores negatively predicted T2 CAS scores(β=-0.12,P＜0.01),CSES scores played the mediating role between WFCS scores and CAS scores,with effect size of 0.01(95％CI:0.003-0.023).Conclusion:Maternal work-family conflict could predict first-grade students' anxie-ty either directly or indirectly through students' self-efficacy.关键词
