Abstract
Objective:To investigate the association between childhood adversity and depression among sec-ondary vocational school students,and to examine the mediating effects of social emotional ability and impulsivity.Methods:A total of 762 first-and second-year students from a public secondary vocational school were enrolled.Childhood adversity,social emotional ability,depressive symptoms,and impulsivity were assessed using the Adverse Childhood Experiences International Questionnaire(ACE-IQ),Chinese Students'Social Emotional A-bility Questionnaire(Student Version),the Patient Health Questionnaire-9(PHQ-9),and Brief Barratt Impulsive-ness Scale(BBIS),respectively.The mediating effects were tested using the PROCESS macro(Version 4.1)for SPSS.Results:Childhood adversity was positively associated with depressive symptoms among secondary vocation-al school students(β=0.37,P＜0.001).The indirect effects of impulsivity and social emotional ability were both statistically significant(effect sizes=0.05,0.11;Ps＜0.001).The proportions of the total effect accounted for by impulsivity and social emotional ability were 31.3％and 68.8％,respectively.Bootstrap analysis indicated that the difference between the two specific indirect effects was statistically significant,with a difference of-0.07 and 95％CI that did not include 0.Conclusion:Childhood adversity is positively associated with depressive symptoms in secondary vocational school students.Social emotional ability and impulsivity show relatively independent paral-lel mediating effects in the association between childhood adversity and depressive symptoms.关键词
