Abstract
Objective:To examine the internal structure of implicit weight stigma among college students and its associations with beliefs about obese persons,and authoritarian parenting style.Methods:A total of 228 Chinese college students from two universities were assessed with the Beliefs about Obese Persons scales(BAOP),subscales of the Parental Authority Questionnaire,such as authoritarian(authoritarian).The Single Category Implicit Associa-tion Test(SC-IAT)was utilized to measure D values of the entire tool of implicit weight stigma(overall SC-IAT D score)as well as the D scores across three dimensions:implicit cognitive evaluation,implicit emotional experience,and implicit behavioral tendency.Results:The overall SC-IAT D score and its internal structure(implicit cognitive evaluation,implicit emotional experience,and implicit behavioral tendency D scores)were significantly greater than zero.Both BAOP and authoritarian scores were positively associated with the total SC-IAT D score(β=0.18,0.20).Conclusion:The findings suggest that correcting biased beliefs regarding the complete controllability of body weight and improving parenting styles may help reduce levels of implicit weight stigma among college students.关键词
