The animacy detectors:The embeddedness of animacy perception
摘要
Abstract
Whether animacy perception is embedded as an innate cognitive mechanism shaped by evolutionary adaptation is a central question in contemporary research on biological motion. The life detector hypothesis(LDH)focuses exclusively on dynamic cues.Given that static cues can also elicit animacy perception,it is necessary to extend this framework by proposing and defending an animacy detectors hypothesis(ADH).According to this view, cognitive agents possess an embedded core cognitive module that contains sensory filters sensitive to features of living beings. This module can simultaneously process dynamic and static cues, thereby perceiving external objects as animate entities, and provides a cognitive foundation for higher-level social cognition and its development.Evidence from ontogeny, comparative psychology, evolutionary biology, intersubjective factors(e.g.,experience,maturation,level of consciousness and cross-modal interactions),and environmental factors(e.g.,social interaction and gravity environment)increasingly supports the possibility that such animacy detectors are embedded.Future research should more thoroughly investigate how the embedded mechanisms of the animacy detector are acquired, delineate the stages of processing involved, clarify the role of multisensory integration in animacy perception, and elucidate the underlying neural and cognitive architectures. Moreover, impairments in animacy perception observed among children with various neurodevelopmental disorders may serve as potential biological markers for these conditions.关键词
