Clinical Study on the Protective Effects of Acupuncture on the Ocular Surface After Wearing Orthokeratology Lenses
摘要
Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the effect of acupuncture on the ocular surface after wearing orthokeratology lens.METHODS A total of 80 myopic children and adolescents(80 eyes)who were fitted with orthokeratology lens at the ophthalmology department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine from January 2023 to December 2023 were enrolled and divided into an experimental group and a control group by the random number table method.Finally,38 cases(38 eyes)were included in the experimental group and 39 cases(39 eyes)in the control group. The control group received orthokeratology lens treatment, and the experimental group received acupuncture treatment on the basis of the control group. Both groups were observed for one month.Noninvasive tear film breakup time(NIBUT),noninvasive tear meniscus height(NITMH),and corneal fluorescein staining(FL)were measured before treatment and at 1 d,7 d,1 month,3 months, and 6 months after treatment, and adverse reactions after acupuncture were observed.RESULTS(1)NIBUT:The differences in the group effect, time effect, and time-by-group interaction effect of NIBUT between both groups were all statistically significant(all P<0.05).In the experimental group,NIBUT at 1 d after treatment was shorter than that before treatment, and NIBUT at 1 month and 3 months after treatment was longer than that before treatment. In the control group,NIBUT at 1 d,7 d,and 1 month after treatment was shorter than that before treatment; The differences were all statistically significant(all P<0.05).In each group, comparisons between the other post-treatment time points and baseline showed no statistically significant differences(P>0.05).At 7 d and 1 month after treatment,NIBUT in the experimental group was higher than that in the control group, and the differences were all statistically significant(all P<0.05).There were all no statistically significant differences in NIBUT between the two groups at 1 d,3 months, and 6 months after treatment(P>0.05).(2)NITMH:The differences in the group effect, time effect, and time-by-group interaction effect of NITMH between the two groups were all statistically significant(all P<0.05).In the experimental group,NITMH at 1 d,7 d,1 month, and 3 months after treatment was higher than that before treatment, and the differences were all statistically significant(all P<0.05).In the control group, there were all no statistically significant differences in NITMH at each time point after treatment compared with before treatment(P>0.05).For the comparison of NITMH between the two groups,at 7 d,1 month, and 3 months after treatment,NITMH in the experimental group was higher than that in the control group, and the differences were all statistically significant(all P<0.05).There were all no statistically significant differences between the two groups at the other post-treatment time points(P>0.05).(3)FL:There were all no statistically significant differences in the incidence of FL at each time point between the experimental group and the control group in the intra-group comparisons before and after treatment and in the inter-group comparisons after treatment(P>0.05).(4)Adverse reactions:The adverse reactions after acupuncture in the experimental group were all transient and mild,no special treatment was administered, and the progress of the trial was not affected.CONCLUSIONS Long-term wearing of orthokeratology lens may affect tear film stability and cause corneal epithelial injury.Acupuncture can improve tear film stability and tear volume after wearing orthokeratology lens, thereby reducing the occurrence of dry eye after orthokeratology lens wear.It is a safe treatment modality acceptable to students.关键词
