The Thickness of Building Facades:Discussion on the Dialectical Relationship Between Visual Representation and Spatial Depth in Architectural Facades

Abstract
As the core interface linking visual perception and spatial experience,building facades face a deep conflict between the trend of visualization and functional needs in contemporary architectural practice.This paper,starting with exploring"facade thickness",integrates typological analysis and phenomenological interpretation,draws on cubism's logic of reconstructing multi-dimensional space,and selects three typical cases of Renaissance architecture,Dutch structuralism and contemporary designs to reveal the construction mechanism of facade thickness as an intermediary dimension in reconciling the contradiction between visual representation and spatial depth.The study shows that by borrowing cubism's two-dimensional reconstructing logic for the three-dimensional space,the thickness can maintain the visual integrity of architectural images while creating dynamic spatial sequence experiences through material layering,light-shadow narration and spatial penetration.This finding provides a theoretical reference for breaking through the superficial tendency of contemporary architecture and re-establishes the ontological value of facades as a medium for spatial generation.关键词
