Predatory functional response of Pheropsophus jessoensis adults on Agrotis ipsilon
摘要
Abstract
[Objective]To clarify the biological control potential of Pheropsophus jessoensis adults against Agrotis ip-silon,thereby providing theoretical support for the green management of Agrotis ipsilon.[Method]Under indoor condi-tions,the predatory behavior and predation amount of Pheropsophus jessoensis adults after 24 h starvation on advanced age(the 3rd-5th instar)larvae and pupae of Agrotis ipsilon were studied.A predation functional response model of Pherop-sophus jessoensis adults on Agrotis ipsilon was constructed.The effects of Agrotis ipsilon density on the predation effi-ciency of Pheropsophus jessoensis was explored.The intraspecific interference response caused by Pheropsophus jessoen-sis density was analyzed.The effects of temperature and habitat on the predation of Pheropsophus jessoensis adults and their starvation tolerance were evaluated.[Result]The results demonstrated that Pheropsophus jessoensis adults exhibited a certain predation capacity on the 3rd-5th instar larvae and pupae of Agrotis ipsilon,with its predation functional response conforming to the Holling II equation.The maximum mean daily predation amount per Pheropsophus jessoensis adult on the 3rd,4th,5th instar larvae and pupae of Agrotis ipsilon were 9.6,6.0,2.0,and 2.0 insects respectively,with corre-sponding instantaneous attack rates of 0.787,1.323,1.123,and 0.522.Predation amount of Pheropsophus jessoensis adults decreased as the developmental stage of Agrotis ipsilon advanced.As the population density of Agrotis ipsilon larvae and pupae increased,the search efficiency of Pheropsophus jessoensis adults to 3rd-5th instar larvae and pupae of Agrotis ipsilon decreased gradually.Furthermore,the intraspecific competitive effects of Pheropsophus jessoensis population would intensify as its density increases,leading to a decline in predation efficiency.The predation efficiency of Pheropso-phus jessoensis adults on 3rd instar larvae of Agrotis ipsilon was greatly affected by temperature.The maximum mean daily predation amount was the highest at 25℃,which was 11.8 insect/predator.Pheropsophus jessoensis adults were able to burrow into soil surface layer to prey on the larvae of Agrotis ipsilon,and they also showed strong ability to resist hun-ger.[Conclusion]Pheropsophus jessoensis adults exhibit predatory behavior toward Agrotis ipsilon larvae and pupae,ef-fectively preying on both exposed and soil-dwelling individuals.This suggests that Pheropsophus jessoensis adults have potential as biological control agents against Agrotis ipsilon.关键词
