Evaluation of the Effectiveness of a Multi-Stage Comprehensive Smoking Cessation Intervention in a High-Risk COPD Population

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the long-term effects of a multi-stage smoking cessation intervention on high-risk populations for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).Methods A prospective cohort design was employed,with a 26-week"5A+5R"stage-based smoking cessation intervention implemented from January 2022 to June 2023 among 63 COPD-high-risk smokers.Exhaled CO concentration and smoking cessation behavior were measured at baseline,1 week,4 weeks,8 weeks,12 weeks,16 weeks,20 weeks,and 26 weeks.Statistical analysis was conducted using repeated-measures ANOVA(Greenhouse-Geisser correction)and generalized estimating equations.Results Post-intervention exhaled CO concentration significantly decreased(P＜0.001).The complete cessation rate increased from 0%at baseline to 31.7%at 26 weeks.Conclusion The"5A+5R"stage-based smoking cessation intervention effectively reduces tobacco exposure levels in high-risk COPD populations,with 12 weeks being a critical period for effect consolidation.Community smoking cessation services are recommended to integrate portable CO detection and home environment interventions,with intensified follow-ups at key milestones of 4 weeks and 12 weeks.关键词
