The Impact of Agriculture-tourism Integration on the Absolute Urban-rural Income Gap:A Case Study of 61 County-level Administrative Districts in Zhejiang,a Demonstration Area for Common Prosperity

Abstract
The agriculture-tourism integration deeply combines agriculture and tourism,representing a new mode of industrial development.It is of great significance for unlocking the economic potential of rural areas and narrowing the urban-rural income gap.Based on the panel data of 61 county-level administrative districts in Zhejiang Province from 2006 to 2024,this paper regarded the policy of the National Demonstration Counties for Leisure Agriculture and Rural Tourism as research object of quasi-natural experiment.By adopting the multi-period difference-in-differences model and mediation effect model,this paper systematically investigated the impact of agriculture-tourism integration on the absolute urban-rural income gap and its internal transmission mechanisms.The results indicated that:agriculture-tourism integration could significantly reduce the absolute urban-rural income gap.The mechanism test revealed that agriculture-tourism integration narrowed the gap primarily by improving infrastructure construction and advancing technological progress.The heterogeneity test indicated that there were regional differences in the impact of agriculture-tourism integration on the absolute urban-rural income gap,agriculture-tourism integration effectively narrowed the absolute urban-rural income gap in northeast Zhejiang,whereas it widened the gap in southwest Zhejiang.Accordingly,policy recommendations are put forward to help achieve common prosperity,such as optimizing infrastructure to build a fully connected regional network,empowering industries with digital technologies to raise the level of industrial digitalization and intelligence,and strengthening top-level design to implement differentiated support policies.关键词
