The effect of vitamin beverages in dissolving polyethylene glycol-electrolyte solution on medication compliance and tolerance in children undergoing colonoscopy

Abstract
Objective To explore the effect of a vitamin beverage(Mizone,a brand name)in dissolving polyethylene glycol-electrolyte solution(PEG-ELS)on medication compliance and tolerance in children undergoing colonoscopy.Methods A total of 243 children undergoing colonoscopy,who were admitted to the Department of Gastroenterology from January 2024 to June 2025,were selected as the research subjects.They were divided into an intervention group(n=124)and a control group(n=119)using the convenience sampling method.In the control group,PEG-ELS was dissolved in warm water.In the intervention group,PEG-ELS was dissolved in Mizone(a brand of vitamin beverage)plus warm water at a ratio of 1:1.The two groups were compared in terms of taste satisfaction,medication compliance,medication administration duration,adverse reactions,laboratory indicators,frequency of defecation,and quality of bowel preparation.Results The intervention group had higher taste satisfaction with the laxative than the control group,lower incidence rates of nausea,vomiting,and hypoglycemic symptoms than the control group,a shorter total medication administration duration than the control group,and higher medication compliance than the control group,the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Meanwhile,there were no significant effects on the frequency of defecation or the quality of bowel preparation and laboratory indicators(P>0.05).Conclusion Dissolving the PEG-ELS in a vitamin beverage(Mizone,a brand of vitamin beverage)can improve the taste of the laxative,reduce the occurrence of adverse reactions,shorten the medication administration duration,and enhance medication compliance,without affecting the quality of bowel preparation or laboratory indicators.It is worthy of clinical application.关键词
