Yao Nai's Poetic Principles and His Du Fu-Oriented Poetics

Abstract
Yao Nai emphasized the principle of"freedom within form"in poetry,arguing that an understanding of poetic principles consti-tutes the key to creating distinctive poetic expressions.He not only learned Du Fu's coherent and varied layout of regulated poetry,but also high-ly praised Huang Tingjian's innovative techniques of removing vulgar rhymes and rewriting old language.He also took inspiration from Wang Shizhen's subtle aesthetic style in his poetic style.These laws all reflect a strong tendency towards Confucianism and Du Fu.In his Anthology of Modern-Style Poetry,Yao Nai frequently analyzed Du Fu's regulated verse and selected many of them as exemplary works.He valued Huang Tingjian's innovations because their essence corresponded with Du Fu's Confucian poetic tradition,while he measured Wang Shizhen's poetic theory against the majestic and vigorous style represented by Du Fu's regulated verse.Yao Nai's poetic principles and Du Fu-oriented poetics clarify the reception history of Du Fu's regulated verse from the Song to the Qing dynasties.They also exerted a lasting influence on later Tongcheng scholars who emphasized both poetic vitality and artistic principles,laying the groundwork for the later Song-style poetry movement and the Tongguang School.关键词
