Abstract
While actively promoting green and low-carbon transitions, understanding the process of climate change adaptation is essential. This is especially true for pastoral areas, which account for forty percent of China's land area.Enhancing adaptive capacity to climate change in these regions has significant implications for China's ecological security and socio-economic development.Based on an analysis of over 70 domestic and international research papers on climate change adaptation in China's pastoral areas, the research progress is presented from three perspectives:changes in adaptation strategies, assessment of adaptive capacity, and enhancement of adaptive capacity.Following the household contract responsibility system for rangelands, traditional mobility strategies have become constrained.Market-oriented strategies have reduced livestock losses but significantly increased costs and long-term risks. Some herders have rebuilt and strengthened cooperative relationships to boost their adaptive capacity.Existing research focuses heavily on micro-level individual herders, yet an increase in the adaptive capacity of individual herding households does not necessarily lead to a more important enhancement of the adaptive capacity of the entire community.Improving adaptive capacity requires"thinking out of the box"i.e.,adopting multi-scale analysis and network perspectives, leveraging local ecological knowledge, and avoiding maladaptation.关键词
