Long-term operation paths of rural mutual support for the aged from the perspective of the production of publicness:A comparative analysis of three practical models

Abstract
The long-term operation of rural mutual support for the aged is essentially a process of the production of publicness in rural communities.Based on the context-structure-behavior analytical framework and a multiple-case comparative method,this paper analyzes the practical models of rural mutual support for the aged from the perspective of the production of publicness.The findings show that three models have emerged in current practice,namely,party-government integration,village self-organization,and social organization-assisted,corresponding respectively to the integrated,endogenous,and catalytic pathways of publicness production.Despite differences in resource supply,rule formation,and organizational mobilization,the long-term operation of the three models relies on the sustained accumulation of public space,reciprocal expectations,shared norms,and collective action capacity.Therefore,this paper argues that rural publicness should be reconstructed in accordance with local conditions to facilitate the sustainable development of rural mutual support for the aged.关键词
