Effects of Feeding Reed Silage on Blood Physiological and Biochemical Indices and Daily Weight Gain of Fattening Hu Sheep

Abstract
[Objective]This study aimed to investigate the effects of feeding bagged reed silage on blood physiological and biochemical indices as well as daily weight gain of Hu sheep during the fattening period.[Methods]Thirty six-month-old male Hu sheep with similar body condition and an average body weight of(31.85±3.12)kg were selected and randomly divided into three groups using a single-factor completely randomized design:a control group and two experimental groups(reed silage with 0.5%and 1.0%molasses,respectively),with 10 sheep per group.The dietary energy and crude protein levels were consistent across all groups.The experiment lasted 45 days,including a 15-day pre-experiment period.Body weights were measured at the beginning(initial weight)and end(final weight)of the formal experiment,and 10 mL of blood samples were collected from the jugular vein one day before the formal experiment concluded,then divided into anticoagulant tubes(stored at 4 ℃ for routine blood testing)and non-anticoagulant EP tubes(serum was collected after the samples were kept at room temperature and centrifuged,then stored at-20 ℃ for biochemical analysis).[Results]The results showed that the final weight and average daily gain(ADG)of Hu sheep in the two experimental groups were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05),but no significant differences were observed between the experimental groups(P>0.05).No significant differences were found in serum biochemical indices such as total protein,albumin,and urea nitrogen between the control group and the experimental groups(P>0.05).Additionally,no significant differences were observed in blood routine indices between the control group and the experimental groups(P>0.05),all values remained within normal ranges.[Conclusion]Feeding reed silage significantly increased the daily weight gain of Hu sheep during the fattening period.Different addition levels of molasses in silage reed had no significant effect on feed intake or health status.Therefore,reed silage has good potential for promotion and application in Xinjiang.关键词
